About

Bridge District

The Bridge District is located in downtown Welland and adjacent to historic Bridge 13, which was an integral part of the St. Lawrence Seaway shipping canal until the early 1970s. It represents an emerging cultural destination with restaurants, craft beer, coffee, cupcakes, cave spa, a music venue, hair salon and barber shop, just to name a few. The Bridge District is also connected with Merritt Island as well as Welland’s trail system, Museum and Amphitheatre.

A city’s heart is found in its downtown. It is the original point of connection where founders sought to bring people and services together to make a community. A strong downtown is essential because it reinforces the foundations of a city and ensures its future; yet it also can, and should, be reimagined to meet modern needs.

The creative economy is on the rise. Creative entrepreneurship brings both new types of businesses and new visions to an area. The arts, food, music, culture, and design are integrated with and reflected in personal services which embrace both daily life and special occasions. It’s a real place for everyone, everyday, and results in economic growth and renewed energy. The history and geography of the Bridge District lends itself to this new creative perspective.
